Making Your Vehicle Safe and Comfortable

How to Best Prepare Your Vehicle for the Journey

Making Your Vehicle Safe and Comfortable

Read all about our vehicle and why we chose what we did. Nearly 6 months into the trip, I have to say I'm happy with all of it. The most important feature for us in terms of comfort and ease of travel is DEFINITELY the fridge. The most important feature in terms of safety is probably the cage.....and the alarm (though maybe the door locks I added (which I will put pictures of up soon)).

I hope so... we are setting of from LA in a month with a Dodge Tradesman van and a BMW r650... watch this space!

At any rate I understand it will be easier on a bike than a car, easier for ferries, parking, getting off beaten track etc.

I have a friend that went from Buenos Aires to Florida on a Yamaha V-Max 1700. He made it though, and loved it, though he said there were times he wished he had a more off-road-able bike. His biggest troubles were getting bogged down in sand and loos gravel.

You might not be able to choose a better bike in my opinion (assuming you are not a short fellow). I also agree with you Dom that taking a bike is likely the easiest way to go as far as ease of travel and freedom to roam. I'd say you could even run the Darien gap on it, if you were so inclined.

If you want good advise on getting your bike ready and keeping it running on the trip look on our sponsors page http://ramblewriter.com/sponsorship.htm and get in contact with Dave Jansen at Combustion Cycles. He does a lot of enduro racing and is a fountain of knowledge on these bikes and on rough conditions.

I'll see if I can get him to wade in on the discussion.

Wahoo! You can carry a lot of luggage on them there BM-double-yous!!!! :geek:
I suggest heavy-duty inner tubes, GPS, and an extra gas tank! My shop is prepping an amateur entry for the Baja 1000 right now, I wish I could be there on the peninsula!
Yeehaw!!!
